Why is the postpartum period so important?

As already mentioned, the first time after the birth is particularly important to build a strong bond with your baby. Especially in the first few days and weeks you simply lie in bed, feel this special closeness, cuddle extensively and simply enjoy every second.

This time is also particularly important for dad to experience this bond and to strengthen. He can also help you with organizational things that you are not yet physically able to do well.

During pregnancy and childbirth, a lot happens to your body. Therefore, after childbirth, he needs special attention in the form of post-natal gymnastics. You should definitely start doing this in childbed. Ask your midwife about suitable exercises and how often you should do them.

Another important point in the postpartum period is breastfeeding. Sometimes mom and baby need some time to get used to it. So take the time you need for it.

How long is the postpartum period?

The postpartum period usually lasts 6-8 weeks. If it's possible, treat yourself to the whole eight weeks!

That doesn't mean that you have to lie in bed all the time and not do anything. But especially in the early confinement, i.e. in the first 10 days after the birth, you should really take the time to rest. And after that, you should give yourself as much rest as possible. Your body needs this time to rest and regenerate.

What can I do in childbirth?

One thing above all else: rest!

Take time during this time really time for you and your baby. Spend a lot of time in bed and cuddle extensively. If you are breastfeeding, use the time between breastfeeding by getting some sleep yourself.

After a spontaneous birth, you can start with very gentle pelvic floor muscle exercises just a few days after the birth and then slowly increase them. It's best to ask your midwife about this.

Your muscles are still a bit weak due to the pregnancy and must be carefully rebuilt and regressed. You should start with “proper” postnatal exercises around 6 to 8 weeks after the birth.

How will my midwife look after me in the confinement?

Especially with the first baby, you usually don't have much experience in dealing with the little dwarf. Many questions only arise when your baby is with you.

Fortunately, there are midwives who support you particularly well and regularly during this time.

Usually visited your midwife every day for the first 10 days. She can give good tips on how breastfeeding or feeding works. It also weighs and measures your baby, shows you how to bathe your baby and much more.

You need to regain your strength quickly after giving birth. You need a lot of energy, especially when you are breastfeeding.
