In this article you will learn the following
The pregnancy test is positive? Congratulations! A wonderful, exciting time begins, because pregnancy is a reason for joy and a unique experience, especially if it is the first. Congratulations from all sides, you plan life as a small family, register for courses and make purchases. Quite quietly in the back of your mind, however, there may also be quiet concerns. What if the pregnancy ends in a miscarriage?
The concern is valid, but it shouldn't dominate your everyday life, because you will surely give birth to a healthy newborn. Nevertheless, it is only legitimate and sensible to educate yourself about the risk of miscarriage, eliminate the risk factors and interpret the signs correctly.
Risk of miscarriage – not so rare
The risk of a miscarriage always depends on the week of pregnancy.
Unfortunately, about every fifth pregnancy does not survive the first twelve weeks. This means that about one in five women will lose this pregnancy again within the first few weeks after successful fertilization of the egg cell.
This is also the reason why many couples only announce their pregnancy after about 12 weeks . Then the “tricky time” of the first trimester of pregnancy is over and the risk of miscarriage drops significantly.
When the unborn child is born before it is viable or dies in the womb, it is called a miscarriage.
This most commonly occurs up to the 12th week of pregnancy. The medical term is then early abortion.
Each additional week of pregnancy that passes without complications minimizes the risk of miscarriage. Pregnancies that end after the 12th week are referred to as late miscarriages. They usually have other causes than early abortions.
From the 24th week of pregnancy, the unborn child in the womb can be kept alive with medical help, born and then adequately cared for.

What are the symptoms of a miscarriage?
The following signs are typical, but do not necessarily indicate an impending miscarriage:
< p>• Bleeding: if it is regular or severe, it is essential to have it checked out immediately.
Light to moderate spotting is common in early pregnancy and is mostly harmless.
In fact, very early departures, e.g. B. from the fifth to sixth week of pregnancy is often mistaken for a menstrual period and the pregnancy was not even noticed beforehand
• Slight to moderate pulling in the abdomen
< p>• Cramping pains in the lower abdomen
• Fever or chills, general malaise
• Cloudy vaginal discharge
• Lower back pain
With these signs, a visit to the gynecologist must be made in any case.
An ultrasound examination then shows whether there are still heart sounds and whether the pregnancy is still intact. If this is not the case, further examinations will be used to decide whether or not a scraping is necessary.
The latter is usually essential in the case of a so-called delayed abortion, i.e. when the fetus dies without bleeding.
Why is this happening to me?
There are some things that your doctor will discuss with you when issuing the maternity pass.
For example, there are certain dietary and behavioral rules that must be observed:
• Alimentary factors:
Excessive coffee consumption (more than four cups a day) or strict diets that have not been approved by a doctor should be avoided.
• Addictive factors :
Alcohol and nicotine are completely forbidden during pregnancy.
• High psychological stress.
• Risk of falling or injury (work or leisure activity).
Basically, a healthy lifestyle with sufficient sleep, moderate exercise, a healthy diet and avoiding intoxicants and stimulants is the best prerequisite for an uncomplicated pregnancy.
Since the need for various vitamins and minerals (iodine, iron, folic acid) increases significantly and cannot always be covered by daily food, these may have to be taken in addition.
In order to prevent an overdose, the intake should be reduced but always prescribed and monitored by a doctor.

Exercise is also important.
Recommended types of sport are above all swimming, light gymnastics or hiking.
Sports with high physical strain, risk of falling or injury (ball sports, martial arts, weightlifting, gymnastics) should never be exercised.

Miscarriage: When it comes to that
If a miscarriage nevertheless occurs, an illness should first be ruled out. A further risk can be minimized by treating them in a targeted manner.
The loss of an unborn child is one of the saddest experiences that can happen to expectant parents. In addition to the mental stress on both parents, the mother often has physical problems due to the loss, a scraping or an operation.
If you feel the need, get professional help in the form of psychological counseling when coping with grief. This is especially important if you are planning to get pregnant again soon.
When can I plan a new pregnancy?
You should wait until you are sure that “the time is right” before trying to get pregnant again. The length of time it takes to process a traumatic event can vary. Take your time.
Some people find it helpful to be distracted at work or with other activities, while others first have to take sick leave and need a longer rest period. You can also find help and exchange in various Internet forums. Maybe you have a local self-help group? Affected people can often give you a lot of encouragement, give tips and offer comfort. You might even make new friends there.
If there are no medical concerns, you can get pregnant again in one of the following cycles. There are even studies that show the increased willingness to conceive in the months after the miscarriage.
If you are mentally stable, you could be pregnant again after a few weeks. And even if the risk of miscarriage is somewhat higher after an abortion has already taken place, many women give birth to a healthy newborn.
