Are you looking for a buggy with air tires? Then you probably have in mind that the buggy should drive well over field and forest paths. Buggies with pneumatic tires and large wheels are better suited to uneven surfaces than buggies with hard rubber/plastic tires. These usually have smaller wheels and are suitable for the city as they are more manoeuvrable and are therefore more practical in shops or on buses. In the case of buggies with pneumatic tires, the tires are inflated with air like a bicycle. Because the air can give way better on bumps, buggies with pneumatic tires have very good cushioning or suspension.
In addition, the tire size plays another role. In general, the larger the wheel, the easier it is to level out bumps; so the ride is smoother and more comfortable for your sweetheart. Because buggies with large tires drive over holes or cobblestones without any problems, because they simply bridge them and they don't sink into them like small wheels do.

But which buggy with pneumatic tires is best? Which one still has a small folding size and still offers a lot of equipment such as an adjustable backrest, a sun canopy or a storage compartment under the seat? In the following comparison, I present three buggies with pneumatic tires.

The 3 buggies with pneumatic tires in detail

1. Buggy with pneumatic tires: Joie “Mytrax”

The Mytrax weighs 12 kg and easily pushes children up to 25. These sit in the direction of travel. This means that it can be used for a long time compared to other buggies. Thanks to the removable seat unit, the Mytrax buggy can be easily converted into a pram with the right baby bath or into a travel system with the help of a baby seat. Nevertheless, it can be folded up extremely easily with one hand thanks to the drawstring in the middle of the seat. The Mytrax has a height-adjustable push handle so that large and small parents can push the buggy comfortably. With a large sun canopy with UV protection 50+, which also has a viewing window, your sweetheart is well protected from the sun. The backrest can be adjusted in four positions up to the lying position. The Mytrax is equipped with a 3-way height-adjustable, padded 5-point safety belt and a removable safety bar. The leg rest can be adjusted in two ways and is equipped with a water-repellent material, which is very practical when you come from the playground or it's raining, for example. With the large storage compartment, which can be loaded up to 4.5 kg, you can store your purchases perfectly. You will also find a small separate compartment there. A detachable drink holder and rain cover are included. Joie's Mytrax has air-filled rear wheels with a diameter of 24 cm with bicycle valve and car valve adapters, so you can pump up the car at the gas station in an emergency. The front air chamber wheels have a diameter of 18 cm, are lockable and swiveling and also have a rubber profile. With its tires, the Mytrax ensures a comfortable ride on uneven surfaces. The wheels all have reflective rims so that the buggy can also be seen in the dark. With an optionally available adapter and the Ramble baby bath, the Mytrax can be converted into a stroller and can be used from birth. With the same adapter, the frame, which is made of light aluminum, can also be combined with baby car seats from Joie and other manufacturers. The buggy can also be combined with the two infant carriers Joie Gemm™ and i-Gemm™ without an adapter.

Thanks to the included Click & Go adapters, you can also attach the appropriate baby bath and infant car seat from Britax Römer and thus use the buggy from birth. The height of the push handle can be adjusted so that both large and small parents can push the buggy in a way that is easy on their backs. The sun canopy has UV protection of 50+ and can be zipped up with a mesh section that provides better ventilation. There is also a viewing window built into the sun canopy so that you can take a look at your treasure. 3. Buggy with pneumatic tires: Hauck “Runner”

The Runner stands out with its large pneumatic tires, which enable it to ensure a comfortable and quiet ride even on uneven roads. In this way, sporty parents can push their little ones, who weigh up to 22 kg, well off-road. The runner has spring-loaded pneumatic tires with lockable and swiveling front wheels. It can be folded to a folding size of 88 x 60 x 44, whereby the wheels can be removed again. Both the push handle and the footrest are height-adjustable. The backrest can be smoothly adjusted to the lying position so that your sweetheart can sleep in the runner. The buggy is equipped with a 5-point safety belt and a removable safety bar. It has a sun canopy, which is relatively short compared to other buggies, so when the sun is low in the sky your sweetheart could be blinded by the sun.

✓ Advantages of buggies with pneumatic tires

• are great for uneven paths
• great damping and suspension
• quiet
• suitable for off-road

✗ Disadvantages of buggies with pneumatic tires

• Regular checking and, if necessary, pumping up the tires necessary
• Risk of punctures and flat tires
• Bulky: large wheels make driving in the city more difficult
• You should always have an air pump (and a spare tube) with you

💡 Alternative to buggies with pneumatic tires: Buggies with air chamber wheels

If the disadvantages of buggies with air tires outweigh them and you are looking for an alternative, you should definitely look at buggies with air chamber wheels. These tires are a combination of pneumatic tires and plastic wheels. Here numerous small air bubbles are foamed into the plastic wheels. The many small air pockets give the wheels good suspension and the ride is much more comfortable than with buggies, which only have simple plastic or hard rubber wheels, but not quite as well as pneumatic tires. The big advantage over the pneumatic tires is that they cannot get flat and you don't have to worry. If you are looking for a buggy for both city and country, a buggy with air chamber wheels is just right for you.

The 3 buggies with air chamber wheels in detail

1. Buggy with air chamber wheels: Joie “Litetrax 4”

The Litetrax 4 weighs 9.7 kg and is approved for children up to 15 kg. These sit in the direction of travel. The Litetrax 4 buggy can be converted into a pram with the matching Ramble baby bath or into a travel system with a baby seat, while the seat unit remains on the frame. The buggy folds up super easily with one hand using a loop. With a large sun canopy with UV protection 50+, which also has a viewing window, your sweetheart is well protected from the sun. The backrest can be adjusted in four positions up to the lying position. The Litetrax 4 is equipped with a 3-way height-adjustable, padded 5-point safety belt and a removable safety bar. The leg rest can be adjusted in two ways. Unfortunately, the cover cannot be removed, only wiped off. With the large storage compartment, which can be loaded up to 4.5 kg, you can store your purchases perfectly. A parent's tray, consisting of a push handle box and drink holder, and a rain cover are included. Unfortunately, the Litetrax 4 does not have a height-adjustable push handle, so tall parents may find it uncomfortable to push it after a long time. Joie's Litetrax 4 features full-suspension, foam-filled wheels. The front wheels are lockable and swivelling. The front wheels have a diameter of 18 cm and the rear wheels 24.5 cm. With an optionally available adapter and the Ramble baby bath, the Mytrax can be converted into a stroller and can be used from birth. With the same adapter, the frame can also be combined with baby carriers from Joie and other manufacturers. The buggy can also be combined with the two infant carriers Joie Gemm™ and i-Gemm™ without an adapter.

2. Buggy with air chamber wheels: Hauck “Rapid 4S”

The Rapid 4S is approved for children up to 25 kg and can therefore be used for longer than other buggies. The backrest can be steplessly adjusted to the lying position and you can also adjust the leg rest three times. The sun canopy, which can be extended with a mesh area for better ventilation with the help of a zip, is very large and protects your sweetheart ideally. A viewing window is integrated into the sun canopy so that you can always have a look at your treasure. The Rapid 4S is equipped with a padded 5-point safety harness and a removable safety bar. The Rapid 4S can be folded up with one hand. The height of the push handle can be adjusted by up to 30 cm, so that both large and small parents can push the buggy in a way that is easy on their backs. The buggy has air chamber wheels, so the wheels are made of foamed plastic. In addition, the wheels have a profile for better grip on the ground. With the white lines on the rims, the buggy is also clearly visible in the dark. Another advantage of the Rapid 4S are the integrated adapters, which usually have to be purchased separately from other manufacturers. With this you can easily fix baby car seats from Hauck. If you want to use the Rapid 4S from birth, the 3 in 1 stroller set might be just the thing for you. This includes the Hauck Comfort Fix baby seat and the matching baby bath.

3. Buggy with air chamber wheels: Knorr Baby “Joggy S”

The Joggy S is a popular buggy for active parents who also like to be out and about on forest paths. The buggy is equipped with a 5-point safety harness and a removable safety bar. The backrest can be adjusted to a lying position using click straps. These take a little getting used to, but serve their purpose. The sun canopy is not deep enough compared to Hauck's Rapid 4S and Joie's Litetrax 4. This also has a viewing window so you can take a look at your treasure. The Joggy S is ideal for forest and field paths due to its large air chamber wheels with a diameter of 30 cm. The push handle can be adjusted in height with the help of its articulated joint and thus adapts perfectly to the size of the parents.

What should be considered when choosing a buggy?

Folding size & Weight
The folding size tells you in advance whether the buggy will fit in your trunk when folded. For buggies with pneumatic tires or air chamber wheels, you should pay attention to whether the folding size is specified with or without wheels. Because if in doubt, you would have to stow away and remove the wheels. If you use the buggy every day and therefore often open and close it, a one-hand folding mechanism is an advantage so that your other hand is still free. Therefore, the weight also plays a role in regular transport. The lightest buggies weigh around 6 kilos, buggies with pneumatic tires are available from 9 kilos.

Comfort
Good equipment in a buggy includes an adjustable backrest (ideally to the horizontal lying position), adjustable footrests, a storage compartment and a sun canopy. Especially for longer distances, the journey is more comfortable for your little one. You should only put your baby in the buggy when its back muscles are already well developed. This is often between six and eight months, when the babies can sit up on their own. The baby should rather lie in the pram beforehand to protect its spine.

Accessories
Some buggies include a rain cover and a transport bag. However, you can optionally buy a lot of things, such as a footmuff or an awning.

Tires
There are some differences in the type of tires. While the expensive buggies have spring-loaded and rubber wheels, cheap buggies tend to have plastic wheels. (My tip when choosing: The bigger the wheels, the less wobbly the ride will be for your child.)

Safety
When choosing a buggy, it is important Safety above all: Most buggies have a 5-point harness so that the child cannot fall forwards or sideways out of the buggy. Some models have an additional safety bar to keep the child safe. A parking brake is standard on a buggy. The rear wheels are locked on most buggies.
